The fight to keep car donations alive for charities continues. Despite the efforts of many who benefit thremendously from the scheme, the U.S. Senate and the House recently passed bills that would severely impair non-profit organisations’ ability to raise much-needed funding by reducing Americans’ ability to benefit any charity by donating a car.
Fortunately, a House/Senate conference committee will debate a compromise bill early this summer. Send a letter to your legislators today urging them to include language to protect car donations for all charities in the new bill – Take Action today!

The Polly Klaas Foundation has composed a standard letter which you can send to your representative. The Polly Klaas Foundation searches for missing children and is one of the charitiees that has benefitted most from car donations - please take the time to mail this letter:

Subject: Take Action to Protect Car Donations!
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

America's charities are able to provide valuable services, sometimes as critical as finding missing children, because of the generosity of their contributors. Car donations, in particular, have become a wonderful and popular way for Americans to show their community spirit.
Unfortunately, language in both the recently-passed Senate and House bills and in the current House bill would essentially eliminate car donations as a viable charitable option. I am writing to encourage you to protect America's charities by supporting vehicle donations programs during the conference of the House and Senate bills.

A coalition of charities, CARS (Charities Advocating for Responsible Solutions), is proposing a better plan to Congress that allows donors to take fair deductions while preventing exaggerated tax deductions, and would allow us to continue the important work we do. Please oppose the Senate and House language at all costs and support the CARS alternative.
The Polly Klaas Foundation is one charity that relies on car donations to provide critical services. The Foundation works with families of missing children to help bring them home safe and prevent them from going missing in the first place. Over the past 10 years, the Polly Klaas Foundation has helped over 5,800 families find missing children. They were instrumental in creating statewide Amber Alerts across the country, which are already credited with saving the lives of more than 137 missing kids.

Much of this work is possible due to the generosity of supporters who donate their cars to the organization. The Polly Klaas Foundation receives no government funding and very little foundation support.
The Senate and House proposals, passed as part of the Foreign Sales Corporation Tax Bills and the current House proposal, would severely impair the Polly Klaas Foundation's ability to help find missing kids by placing too big a burden on both the charity and donor, essentially eliminating car donations as a reasonable option for Americans who want to make charitable contributions.

Together, we can make sure nonprofit organizations have the means to continue their valuable services. Please let me know what you intend to do.
Sincerely,
